Say no to the SOPA Act - Stop forcing selfies and IDs to chat

The Issue

IN THE NAME OF SAFETY WE ARE BEING FORCED TO:

  • Upload selfies or government IDs just to chat with friends
  • Scan our faces to talk online
  • Get parental approval for every normal conversation

The Stop Online Predators Act (SOPA) sounds good on paper, but it doesn’t actually solve the real problems happening on platforms. Instead, it creates new problems: over-compliance by companies, heavy over-censorship, and the destruction of normal, everyday chat features that kids use to talk to their friends Many kids just want to play and chat with their friends on Roblox and other apps without being forced into invasive age verification. Clippy never asked for Face ID just to talk — he was simple and harmless. Age filters should only be used for content (like what games or videos you see), not to completely lock down chat and treat every kid like a potential criminal Even the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said in its February 2026 COPPA policy statement that it won’t bring enforcement actions against companies for using age verification technologies under certain conditions. This shows that strong protections can exist without New York’s heavy-handed SOPA approach that forces selfies and IDs on everyone. We fully support protecting children from real online predators. No one wants kids to be unsafe. However, forcing mass surveillance, facial scans, and government ID checks on millions of young users is not the right solution. It destroys privacy, creates barriers for kids who just want to socialize, and takes away the fun and freedom of online spaces — all while likely failing to stop determined bad actors. We need smarter, more targeted solutions that protect kids without punishing innocent users and turning the entire internet into a monitored zone.Sign this petition to say NO to the SOPA Act!
