The Issue

A $12 billion data center project is moving forward in Wyandotte County, Kansas — and the public still doesn’t know who it’s really for, or how it will impact our environment, water, and neighborhoods.

The Red Wolf DCD Properties project, approved in May 2025, would be the largest development in county history, with six massive data center buildings across more than 1.8 million square feet. But the approval process has been rushed, the end user is unknown, and residents have been kept in the dark.

Now, thanks to a community lawsuit and a protest petition, the project is temporarily on hold. It’s time to hit pause and get answers before any construction begins.

We’re calling on the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, the Kansas Corporation Commission, and the Department of Energy to:

  • Delay all construction and permitting until a full environmental and infrastructure impact study is completed
  • Disclose the identity of the end user and full public-private agreements involved
  • Hold public hearings with local residents before rezoning is finalized
  • Commit to strong water and energy usage regulations, with independent monitoring
  • Ensure local taxpayers are not left footing the bill for infrastructure upgrades.

This is not a call to stop all data centers—but to stop reckless, speculative development. We’ve seen what happens when giant tech projects are greenlit without transparency: skyrocketing utility costs, dried-up water reserves, and empty buildings when deals fall through.

Kansas deserves sustainable growth, not corporate secrecy. Wyandotte County residents deserve a voice in what gets built in their neighborhoods.

Say no to this deal until the public has a seat at the table.
