Green Energy isn't all it seems - Scottish Power has announced plans to build a huge substation on fields north of Friston so cables can be brought in from another wind farm due to be built off the Suffolk Coast. If planning is granted the substation will set a precedent which undermines the sanctity of village life for residents of Friston. It also sets alarm bells ringing as this precedent would mean no peaceful, rural community is safe when it comes to big projects like this. Your village, town or community could be next. In order to bring cables across to the substation Scottish Power would need to trench across acres of protected land within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB. By selecting Friston, the furthest option for a substation, the cable route will plough its way through the AONB destroying sensitive habitat and cause disruption to many communities along the way.

We will fight to get Scottish Power to rethink, we believe Scottish Power should look again at options to connect to the grid closer to the coast, near to other sites at Sizewell where electricity infrastructure is already located. The government if necessary must step in and persuade Scottish Power and other power companies EDF, Magnox and National Grid to cooperate in order to Save East Suffolk.
