Save East Suffolk - Windfarm substations cannot damage or destroy communities & villages
The Issue
HELP US SAY NO to proposals to build huge energy substations close to peaceful rural Suffolk villages.
Green Energy isn't all it seems - Scottish Power has announced plans to build three huge substations on fields north of Friston so cables can be brought in from wind farms due to be built off the Suffolk Coast. If planning is granted the substation will set a precedent which undermines the sanctity of village life for residents of Friston. It also sets alarm bells ringing as this precedent would mean no peaceful, rural community is safe when it comes to big projects like this. Your village, town or community could be next. In order to bring cables across to the substation Scottish Power would need to trench across acres of protected land within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB. By selecting Friston, the cable route will plough its way through the AONB, destroying sensitive habitat and causing disruption to communities along the way.
BEIS & Kwasi Kwarteng must act to save the Suffolk Coast AONB & countryside. BEIS must make Scottish Power & National Grid adopt least damaging solutions to connect new energy projects. Brownfield or pre-industrialised sites should be used (e.g. Bramford, Ipswich or Bradwell, Essex). Failing this a suitable location along the Thames estuary must be found so substations are built closer to London and the southeast where most of this electricity is needed.
