Say No to Recycling Fees for Used Cooking Oil in Loudoun County

The Issue

In Loudoun County, citizens who responsibly would like to recycle their used cooking oil are charged unnecessary fees that raise the cost for each person to take care of the environment. These fees make it harder for families, small businesses, and environmentally conscious people who wish to regularly recycle. Not everyone can afford these additional costs, which, in reality, are the reasons why cooking oil is most likely to end up in landfills, or worse - poured down the drains, creating expensive sewer backups and chaos. This issue affects everyone who cares about keeping our community clean and safe.

If these fees to recycle continue, more and more residents may completely stop recycling their used cooking oil, leading to increased environmental damage. In instances where the used cooking oil is not recycled well, it can wreak havoc on the environment by causing damage to the local sources of water and stressing sewage systems. If we eliminate these fees, then responsible recycling would become easy and accessible for all the residents. Furthermore, our neighboring Counties cooking oil recycling centers are freely accepting used cooking oil, providing initiative for Loudoun County to follow suit.

With heightened awareness and concern about environmental responsibility, now is the time to make recycling easier for all in Loudoun County. By signing below, you are taking a step to help protect our environment locally and sending a message that recycling should be rewarded, not penalized. We can make our community set the example of how to live sustainably.
