The Issue

Growing up in Scott County, Virginia, I have cherished the clean air, pristine water, and tranquil surroundings that define this beautiful community. However, recent proposals to build more data centers in our area threaten to disrupt the balance of our environment. As residents, we deserve clean water, no noise pollution, and stable electricity costs, which are already a burden to many of us.

Data centers are known for their extensive water and energy consumption. This strain on resources could jeopardize our precious water supply, potentially leading to shortages and environmental degradation. In communities across the country, similar facilities have resulted in increased noise pollution and possible contamination affecting the health and well-being of residents.

Moreover, the promised economic benefits of these data centers rarely trickle down to the local community. Instead, they often serve political and corporate interests, prioritizing profit over people. In Scott County, we must stand firm in our commitment to preserving our environment for future generations, valuing our natural resources more than temporary economic gains.

Our region's natural beauty is not something to be exploited for political or corporate gain. It is a heritage that must be protected. There are sustainable alternatives and green technologies that can drive local economic growth without sacrificing our environment.

Join me in urging our local leaders to reconsider the approval of more data centers in Scott County. We must prioritize our health, our natural environment, and our community’s sustainability. Sign the petition to ensure that Scott County remains a place where nature and community thrive together.
