Say NO to Las Vegas Switch Data Center

The Issue

Las Vegas is a city already struggling with water bankruptcy, rising temperatures and skyrocketing energy costs. We currently have at least 38 data centers built within the city. Operating these data centers are companies like Google, Databank, EdgeConnex, ISP.net, Flexential and Switch.

Between January 2026 and March 2026, Switch has acquired a total of 316 acres of land to build its newest data center at Apex Industrial Park in North Las Vegas. Between new projects being planned and built in both Northern Nevada and the Las Vegas area, these data centers will be using more than 35% of the state's electricity. Specifically the new centers in the Las Vegas region like Switch's new North Vegas location will need triple the amount of energy that the entire city already uses. This not only raises energy prices for millions, but also raises temperatures in areas within a 6 mile radius of the data center by forming what are known as "heat islands." These "islands" raise the temperatures in surrounding land and air by up to 16 degrees Fahrenheit.

The operation of these centers is speeding up an already occurring process of the areas in the Southwest region becoming uninhabitable over the next 50 years without significant and expensive infrastructure changes, due to extreme heat and drought. The city of Las Vegas relies on the Colorado River and Lake Mead for its water supply which are both drying up, caused by climate change, overuse and irresponsible allocation. It's important to note that Lake Mead is the largest man-made reservoir in the United States. Since the first of March 2026, Lake Mead has dropped 6 feet and could drop an additional 20 feet by 2027. Nevada isn't the only state impacted by the steadily increasing water scarcity. Lake Mead deposits water into the lower Colorado River Basin. Arizona and California are both also supplied water as well as Mexico through these basins. The last thing we need is another data center being build while Nevada and the surrounding states suffer from a lack of water, air quality, higher energy bills and rapidly increasing heat.

When we pressure local officials together in numbers, they have no choice but to listen to us. We The People have the power. The more individual voices we have, the louder our collective voice gets, and everyone's voice counts. Please sign this petition and help grow the volume of our voice and stand firm that we won't let big corporations ruin our land and our health to line their pockets.
