Happy New Year neighbors!
We are celebrating not only the new year but also our new numbers! We have surpassed our goal of 200 signatures! Thank you so much for keeping this petition going and highlighting our cause. Please continue to share the petition and spread the word amongst our community members. Our next goal is 500 signatures.
I hope everyone was able to get some quiet time over the holiday season. Now that we are back to business, I just wanted to update everyone on the latest efforts to stop this industrial park project.
A few of us attended the Half Hollow Hills Board of Education meeting at Paumanok Elementary School on December 16th. (A video of the meeting is available on the HHH school district's website.) I was given time during the public commentary portion towards the end of the meeting to share our concerns. In addition to highlighting the concerns, I also asked the HHH BOE to please step in and reach out to the Town of Babylon to find out why HHH has been left out of the conversation when it affects a substantial portion of the HHH community. I also asked them to make this an agenda item on an upcoming BOE meeting so that more HHH community members can be aware of this project that will cause complete upheaval to our quiet, residential community. Board members listened intently -- let's hope they also act.
In addition to the BOE meeting, I filed a FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) Request with the Town of Babylon. (A copy is in our shared Google folder HERE (and linked below) with our other documents.) As many of us stated during the Zoom meeting, we believe the Town has not followed protocol in properly notifying all affected communities of their intent with this rezoning/industrial park. We plan to read through all documents shared via the FOIL request to see if protocols were properly followed.
Lastly the public commentary period ended on November 25th. At the last public hearing, Supervisor Schaffer mentioned that we would get a response from Bristol Suffolk LLC (the company building the industrial park). That response has not yet been received by any of the community members who spoke at the hearing or emailed the Town. If you are someone who is waiting to hear from them, and has not by January 20th, please let us know.
Again, thank you everyone for your support. Please continue to share the petition and save our community.
