Good afternoon,

This is just a quick update to let our community know about another possible construction project that affects our area.

The Town of Babylon Planning Board Board is meeting this evening. Their agenda (please see attached) has the Wade Farms apartment project slated as a topic for tonight's meeting.

For those of you who have been living here for some time, you will recognize this project, which was not approved by the Town a few years back. Since it is on the agenda again I am taking a guess that the farm is hoping to try for approval this year.

I support residential housing as I know Long Island needs many more affordable places to live for our young families. I just feel the Town has to be thoughtful about where to build.

My concerns are:

A) Can our community handle the extra homes? We are a closed in community -- we do not have an abundance of access roads to accommodate the increase in traffic an apartment complex would bring.

B) Can the community handle two massive construction projects at the same time? An industrial park and now an apartment complex?

C) What impact will this have on our groundwater? We already are at risk if the industrial park is approved. Now they want to add 264 apartments? Long Island is already struggling with algal blooms in our waterways due to excessive wastewater contamination.  What will this massive increase in wastewater do to not only our local water supply but also the island's groundwater? I would hope that the Town prioritizes adding a sewer line to our area if they decide to approve these massive construction projects.

In addition to the Planning Board agenda I've also attached some articles on water contamination around the island. I'm sharing because I think it is important for us to stay informed about these major decisions affecting where we live. The agenda and articles are also uploaded to our shared Google folder.
