HB 2847 Passed! What's Next?

Dear Supporter,
The final result to Texas HB 2847. Per the lobbyist that fought for our industry!
The conference committee report for HB 2847 was adopted by both the Senate and the house tonight. The Senate vote was 29-2 and the House vote was 100-42. The bill will now go to Governor Abbott who will sign.
The Schwertner amendment that reduces the cosmetology hours from 1500 to 1000 is in the bill. The barber licensure hours remain at 1500.
All of us are disappointed with this result. Before the end of the week, I will visit with Brian Francis and Steve Bruno at TDLR about the planned timeline for the TAC rules necessary to implement the legislation. Let’s continue our communication on this as there will be opportunities to raise the training issues ahead.
Your work to maintain the high standards for cosmetology in Texas is greatly appreciated by me.
