The Issue

Introduction
We, the undersigned residents, property owners, community members & general supporters of this opposition, respectfully submit this petition to express our strong opposition to the proposed Goldenrod East and West LLC Solar Farm, planned for construction adjacent to established homes and active farmland within Drummer Township. The proposed site is located at 699–561 N 500 E Road, Gibson City, Illinois, on land between the current golf course and residential homes, including portions of the former golf course property. While we support the advancement of renewable energy, we believe this specific project poses unacceptable risks and consequences for nearby residents, local farms, and the environment. Its location and scale are entirely incompatible with the surrounding community. For these reasons, we urge the Ford County Zoning Board of Appeals to deny this proposal in its entirety.   1. Impact on Community Character and Appearance
The proposed installation would significantly and permanently alter the rural and residential character of the area. Rows of industrial solar panels, fencing, and equipment would replace open farmland and scenic landscapes that define Drummer Township. This project would industrialize a residential and agricultural area, diminishing property enjoyment and eroding the visual quality that makes this community desirable. Such an intrusive development does not belong in proximity to homes, farms, or recreational areas. 2. Reduction in Property Values
Large-scale industrial solar projects built near homes have been shown to lower nearby property values. The proximity of this project to established residences will discourage future buyers and unfairly harm homeowners who invested in Ford County for its quiet, rural setting. Residents should not bear the financial burden of an industrial facility that offers them no local benefit while reducing their property values and quality of life. 3. Drainage, Flooding, and Agricultural Concerns
The proposed site currently supports natural drainage for nearby farmland and residential properties. Construction activities, grading, and panel installation would disrupt water flow, increase surface runoff, and create the potential for erosion and flooding in surrounding areas. These changes threaten productive farmland, established drainage patterns, and residential stability. We request that no approval be considered for any project that compromises existing agricultural and environmental conditions. 4. Health and Safety Concerns
The construction and operation of this industrial-scale solar facility raise serious health and safety concerns: Construction risks: Heavy machinery, noise, dust, and traffic will endanger the health and safety of local residents, especially children, older adults, and those with health conditions. Operational hazards: The facility will bring high-voltage electrical infrastructure and potential fire risk dangerously close to homes and farm buildings. Water safety: The potential for contamination from solar panel degradation or cleaning materials poses risks to private wells and groundwater relied upon by rural residents. These risks are incompatible with a residential environment and are unacceptable within a populated township. 5. Protection of Community and Environment
Renewable energy development should be pursued responsibly, without placing industrial projects in close proximity to homes and productive farmland. The Goldenrod East and West LLC Solar Project is not compatible with the character, land use, or safety of Drummer Township. Ford County must protect its residents, farmland, and rural environment by rejecting this proposal and preventing similar inappropriate siting in the future.   Formal Request
We, the undersigned, respectfully and firmly request that the Ford County Zoning Board of Appeals: DENY the zoning request and all associated permits for the Goldenrod East and West LLC Solar Project. This request reflects the clear and unified position of residents who believe this project poses unacceptable risks to property values, safety, farmland, and the rural character of our community.   Conclusion
This petition represents the united stance of Ford County residents & their supporters who oppose the industrialization of our rural community. We strongly urge the Ford County Zoning Board of Appeals to protect our homes, farmland, and environment by denying the Goldenrod East and West LLC Solar Farm project in full. Our community stands for responsible growth, safe development, and the preservation of Ford County’s rural way of life. Sign This Petition

I am glad to see the local citizens voicing their concerns and activating to make their voices heard. I hope someone will attend the hearing that was recessed until December 9th at 6pm and present this petition as testimony. I also hope to see folks show up to the hearing and provide additional testimony and evidence under the hearing process. It's important to provide evidence in these zoning matters so the ZBA can do their due diligence in making an informed decision on these matters. Thank you, Cindy Ihrke Ford County Board member https://fordcounty.illinois.gov/county-board/county-board-2025/ All Board Meetings will be held in the Conference Room at the Ford County Jail.
