Say NO to the 9 Proposed 30-Story Towers at Galleria Mall

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fort Lauderdale is facing one of the most aggressive and irresponsible development proposals in its history: nine massive 30-story towers packed into an already congested area. This project threatens our roads, our safety, our environment, and the livability of our community. We, the residents, call on city officials to stop this overdevelopment before the damage becomes permanent.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fort Lauderdale supports revitalizing and improving the Galleria Mall — but not through massive overdevelopment. The current proposal for nine 30-story towers is excessive, out of scale, and harmful to the surrounding community. While we welcome a thoughtful and modern revamp of the mall itself, this extreme high-rise expansion threatens our roads, our safety, our environment, and the overall livability of our neighborhoods. We, the residents, call on city officials to stop this oversized redevelopment and pursue a balanced plan that upgrades the mall without overbuilding or overwhelming the area.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRIDLOCK & TRAFFIC COLLAPSE
Our roads are already overburdened, and this project would add thousands of additional cars to the same narrow streets. The result will be city-wide gridlock, slower emergency response times, and daily traffic chaos that chokes mobility for everyone.

EXTREME OVERDEVELOPMENT
Nine high-rise towers in one zone is not thoughtful planning—it’s reckless overbuilding. The scale completely dwarfs existing neighborhoods, creating a solid wall of concrete that destroys the character and charm of the surrounding community.

STRAINED INFRASTRUCTURE
Fort Lauderdale’s aging sewage, drainage, and stormwater systems already fail during heavy rains. Adding thousands of new residents without upgrading infrastructure guarantees more flooding, more backups, and more strain on public services.

SHADOWS, NOISE & POLLUTION
These towers will cast huge shadows over homes and open spaces while generating years of nonstop construction noise. Increased traffic means more air pollution and harmful emissions that degrade the health and quality of life for nearby residents.

LOSS OF COMMUNITY CHARACTER
Our city is known for its coastal feel, human-scaled development, and walkable neighborhoods. Mega-towers erase that identity, replacing it with dense, transient, high-rise living that does not reflect the community's values or vision.

RISING COSTS & DISPLACEMENT
Luxury high-rise development does not benefit residents—it prices them out. Property values rise, rent increases, and small businesses are pushed aside while developers profit at the expense of long-time locals and families.

ENVIRONMENTAL & FLOODING RISKS
Covering more land with concrete worsens flooding, reduces natural drainage, and puts fragile ecosystems at risk. With sea levels rising, this kind of development is dangerous and irresponsible.

PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS
More congestion means slower emergency response times, increased traffic accidents, and more pressure on police, fire rescue, and medical services. Residents will be less safe, not more.

WE DEMAND RESPONSIBLE PLANNING
We call on the City Commission and Planning & Zoning Board to reject the proposal for nine 30-story towers, pause all approvals, and require comprehensive community impact studies before any large-scale development moves forward. Fort Lauderdale deserves smart growth—not unchecked, profit-driven overdevelopment.
