Say “NO” to Fake Honorary Doctorate Degree and take action against those involved
The Issue
Referring to the subject matter, I would like to bring the issue of the presentation of honorary doctorate awards by a few unscrupulous non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in disguise of social services, arts & cultural societies.
Recently, I have witnessed mushrooming of NGOs awarding people with an honorary doctorates. Any degree or certificate must be granted by a recognised University or awarding body.
As a progressing nation with a stringent education policy, Malaysia, it is a shame to have some rotten apples spoiling the dignity of the title of ‘‘Doctor’’ by giving and receiving the award without proper governance or accreditation. This act alone is beyond challenging the local governing authorities.
In my letter to MOHE, I expose evidence and details of several NGOs issuing honorary doctorates. I understand that giving a fake degree is an offence under the University & College University act 1971 (Act 30) and the Private Education act (act 555).
Following are the details of the NGOs:
1. Malaysia Bharath India Chamber of Commerce
PIC: (Datuk Seri Dr) Dhatchinamoorthy Daruman
2. Malaysia South India Chamber of Commerce
PIC: (Dato' Sri Dr) S. Venugopal, President of Malaysia~South India Chamber of Commerce
3. Gandhi Peace Foundation
PIC: (Dato Sri Dr) Shankar Nair
4. The Malaysian Honorary Doctorate Organisation
PIC: (Prof. Emeritus. Major. Dato. Dr.) SamRaj Arumugam
Above organisations have made a mockery of the education act of Malaysia. This issue has been around for many years. If one does not take any steps to prevent this issue, it will continue to be a nuisance to the public.
If it continues, it will send a wrong message to the future of the education landscape of Malaysia.
I call upon your support to send a strong message to relevant local authority. We need following:
1. The PIC of the NGOs to be questioned and arrested.
2. Anyone using the fake title of ‘Dr’ from this NGOs to be questioned and arrested.
