Say No to Data Centers: Keep Jasper and Lawrence Counties Rural

Say No to Data Centers: Keep Jasper and Lawrence Counties Rural
The Issue
I am a landowner who owns land approximately 0.5 miles from the proposed data center site in Jasper and Lawrence Counties, and I am deeply concerned about the implications of this large-scale development in our community.
The construction of a new data center and solar project brings with it a host of potential issues that could drastically affect our way of life, local ecosystems, and property values. These concerns are not only personal to my family and me but also resonate with numerous residents within the vicinity who cherish the tranquility and natural beauty of our surroundings.
Firstly, such developments often lead to significant increases in noise pollution due to construction and operational activities. This unnatural commotion disrupts the peace of our rural environment, which many families have enjoyed for generations. Furthermore, there is evidence that property values in areas near such industrial sites tend to depreciate over time, which could negatively impact the economic stability of many households.
Moreover, the environmental footprint of a data center is substantial. Data centers are known for their high energy consumption and large water usage during cooling processes. This not only contradicts the principle of sustainability but could also strain our natural resources. The solar aspect of the project, while seemingly green, may result in deforestation and loss of agricultural land.
There are alternative solutions that could be explored to accommodate the needs for increased digital infrastructure without compromising our environment and community welfare. Relocating the project to a less ecologically sensitive area should be considered.
I acknowledge the need for progress and modernization, but it should not come at the cost of our environment, heritage, and community well-being.
Please join me in calling on local authorities to halt the current plans for the data center and solar project. Sign the petition to protect our land for future generations and preserve the essence of our beloved community.
