The Issue

I am a landowner who owns land approximately 0.5 miles from the proposed data center site in Jasper and Lawrence Counties, and I am deeply concerned about the implications of this large-scale development in our community.

The construction of a new data center and solar project brings with it a host of potential issues that could drastically affect our way of life, local ecosystems, and property values. These concerns are not only personal to my family and me but also resonate with numerous residents within the vicinity who cherish the tranquility and natural beauty of our surroundings.

Firstly, such developments often lead to significant increases in noise pollution due to construction and operational activities. This unnatural commotion disrupts the peace of our rural environment, which many families have enjoyed for generations. Furthermore, there is evidence that property values in areas near such industrial sites tend to depreciate over time, which could negatively impact the economic stability of many households.

Moreover, the environmental footprint of a data center is substantial. Data centers are known for their high energy consumption and large water usage during cooling processes. This not only contradicts the principle of sustainability but could also strain our natural resources. The solar aspect of the project, while seemingly green, may result in deforestation and loss of agricultural land.

There are alternative solutions that could be explored to accommodate the needs for increased digital infrastructure without compromising our environment and community welfare. Relocating the project to a less ecologically sensitive area should be considered.

I acknowledge the need for progress and modernization, but it should not come at the cost of our environment, heritage, and community well-being.

Please join me in calling on local authorities to halt the current plans for the data center and solar project. Sign the petition to protect our land for future generations and preserve the essence of our beloved community.

Responded
I have been in contact with many constituents in regards to the Sarcoxie Data Center. My office has been and will continue to work on finding answers to questions that have been asked. Constituents are always encouraged to reach out to me directly if they have concerns regardless of what the topic is and we will always search to find the answer; even if that means we have to respond by giving answers that are difficult to hear. In response to the large volume of calls, emails and messages, I have organized an informational meeting for anyone interested in knowing the facts that surround the data center that has been proposed in Sarcoxie, Thursday, April 23rd @ 7pm. The meeting will consist of many third party professionals not associated with the project, again we only want facts. In addition many elected officials including Senator Jill Carter, County commissioners and other area state representatives. My office is working on a question answer fact sheet that we will be able to share, hopefully soon. If there are questions that you have or you have seen, please send them to me and I will add the new ones to our list. Best regards, Ann Kelley Majority Caucus Secretary Missouri State Representative, District 127 Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.
