Say no to data centers and bitcoin mines in Texas

Say no to data centers and bitcoin mines in Texas
The Issue
This is for every small town community in Texas. We don’t want our towns destroyed for big tech. We created this petition for our town officials and for Governor Abbott. If you wouldn’t want this next door to you please don’t do it to us.
Researchers have raised alarms about the environmental and social impacts of data centers and Bitcoin mines in Texas. These facilities are poised to significantly burden our communities with pollution, resource depletion, and threats to our property values.
In 2025, AI data centers are expected to emit more CO2 than an entire metropolis like New York City. The environmental implications are staggering, with these centers projected to consume more water annually than the global bottled water industry. Such excessive electricity and water consumption jeopardizes Texas’ natural resources and places strain on the infrastructure.
The presence of large data centers can severely depreciate property values, as residents flee the detrimental side effects like persistent noise, air and light pollution. Health issues, stemming from these pollutants, are an inevitable reality. Residents in proximity to data centers have reported respiratory issues and other health complications, directly linking these conditions to the persistent polluting operations of these centers.
While technological advancements are vital, they should not come at the expense of our environment and community health. We need to prioritize sustainable and community-friendly alternatives that do not jeopardize our future. By saying no to unchecked establishment of data centers and Bitcoin mines, we protect our homes, our health, and our environment.
Join us in urging Texas lawmakers to rethink the expansion of data centers and Bitcoin mines in our state. By signing this petition, you lend your voice to a critical cause, demanding stricter regulations and a revised strategy that aligns with ecological responsibility and sustainable development.
