The Issue

Living nearby Thimblerow car park in Perth, I have witnessed first-hand how vital this parking area is to the community. It serves as an essential, affordable, and accessible long-stay parking option, particularly for families. The car park provides a practical and safe pathway to the city centre. Without it, families, visitors, and local employees would struggle to find convenient parking options nearby.

The proposal to replace Thimblerow car park with a five-storey leisure complex presents numerous challenges and concerns. The noise and light pollution from such a construction will directly impact local residents who value the tranquility of their homes. Additionally, the area is already subjected to heavy traffic congestion, compounded by multiple traffic signals and roundabouts. Introducing a massive development in this spot will exacerbate these issues, making daily commutes even more taxing.

Moreover, there has been no clear communication or planning regarding key infrastructure concerns such as drainage, water pressure, and the overall environmental impact on the surrounding area. The community deserves transparency and answers to these pressing questions before any construction decisions are made.

We must also consider the character and charm of Perth, which thrives on its careful balance of community spaces, green areas, and urban development. Building on Thimblerow would disrupt this balance and undermine what makes Perth a unique and pleasant place to live and visit.

I urge the Perth Council and developers to reconsider this proposal. Together, we can explore alternative locations for the leisure complex that would serve the community without sacrificing an essential resource. Let's prioritize preserving our essential parking facilities and maintaining the quality of life for all Perth residents.

Please sign this petition to oppose the development on Thimblerow car park and support maintaining this vital community asset.
