Say NO to 5G mast at Boylestone, Barrhead

Say NO to 5G mast at Boylestone, Barrhead
The Issue
MBNL (EE (UK) Ltd & Hutchison UK Ltd) are proposing to build a 20m high 5G telecoms mast at the site of the former stables off Boylestone Road, Barrhead.
East Renfrewshire Council refused permission for the mast and MBNL have now appealed to the Scottish Government. We have 14 days to comment on the appeal. So we only have until 1 March to get us much support as we can. Please help us by signing this petition, adding your comments and sharing it.
The mast would have a devastating effect on the character, views and biodiversity of the Fereneze Braes, an environmentally sensitive site within the East Renfrewshire greenbelt. It would tower over the homes of local residents, putting their property and health at risk and spoil the enjoyment of people who come from miles around to walk here.
The mast would be disguised to look like a cypress tree, with antennae and satellite dishes sticking out at the top. It would sit inside a 10m x 8m compound surrounded by a 2.4m high mesh fence and accessed from a footpath between two houses. The location is next to a Local Biodiversity Site (LBS) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the footpath leading to the Fereneze Braes is popular with walkers.
- the mast would be three times higher than the surrounding woodland
- the cypress tree design would not blend in with the surrounding deciduous woodland
- its elevated position would spoil views of the braes from around Barrhead and beyond
- it would tower over the homes of nearby residents, dominating their views and exposing them to possible health risks from 5G radiation
- the proposed access point is a popular footpath between two houses and unsuitable for vehicle access
- the unsightly mast and fenced compound next to the footpath would spoil the enjoyment of people who walk there for exercise, wellbeing and observing wildlife
- water run-off from ground levelling work could adversely impact neighbouring properties with flooding and ground contamination
- ground levelling work and construction would disturb local wildlife including a number of protected species
- it would have a negative impact on biodiversity of this Local Biodiversity Site as birds, animals and insects could enter the exclusion zone and be directly exposed to 5G radiation
East Renfrewshire Council refused the application on 24 January 2023 but their decision could be overturned as MBNL have now appealed to the Scottish Government. We are asking you to show your support now and help us to stop this mast being built.
