The Issue

As parents, students, and concerned community members of Morgan County, we are deeply troubled by the School Board’s recent decision to limit high school students to only five classes per day. This drastic shift compromises the holistic development of our children and does not reflect the values, priorities, or needs of our community.

This policy forces students to make impossible choices between core academic classes, AP/honors courses, foreign language study, athletics, fine arts, and other enrichment opportunities—including religious instruction such as seminary, which holds deep personal and cultural significance for many families in Morgan County.

Why This Matters:

  • Students are being forced to drop essential and enriching courses, limiting their access to a well-rounded education.
  • College-bound students are placed at a competitive disadvantage, unable to take the breadth of coursework expected by many universities.
  • Athletes and performers now face additional stress as they try to balance their commitments with graduation requirements—putting their passions and mental health at risk.
  • This policy minimizes opportunities for academic exploration, spiritual growth, and creative expression—all crucial parts of adolescent development.
  • Most importantly, this decision was made without meaningful community input or transparency.

Education should be a collaborative effort—not a top-down decision that strips students of opportunity and blindsides families. The people of Morgan County deserve better.

We call on the Morgan County School District to pause implementation of the 5-class schedule, seek open dialogue with families and educators, and work together to develop a solution that prioritizes student opportunity, community values, and educational excellence.

Please sign this petition—and then share it on your social media to help us reach more families, students, alumni, and neighbors who care about protecting our children’s future.

Together, we can make a difference.
