SAY NO TO THE PROPOSED SPECIAL RATE VARIATION

We, the undersigned, call on Temora Shire Council to reject its proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV) and pursue fairer, more sustainable alternatives to address Council’s financial position.

The proposed SRV options would see rates increase by an extraordinary 79.4% to 124.25% over three years.

This is simply unacceptable.

Families, pensioners, farmers and local businesses are already facing immense financial pressure. The cost of groceries, fuel, insurance, utilities, mortgages, rent and everyday essentials continues to rise. A rate increase of this magnitude risks placing an unreasonable additional burden on the very community Council exists to serve.

For farmers and businesses, significantly higher rates mean increased operating costs at a time when many are already dealing with rising expenses and economic uncertainty. For households, particularly those on fixed or lower incomes, these increases could make an already difficult cost-of-living situation even harder.

We recognise that Council faces financial challenges and must plan responsibly for the future. However, increases of up to 124.25% over three years cannot be accepted as the solution without every reasonable alternative being thoroughly explored.

We call on Temora Shire Council to:

Reject the proposed SRV increases of 79.4% to 124.25%.
Undertake a comprehensive review of Council spending, operations and efficiencies.
Explore alternative funding, savings and revenue options before placing further pressure on ratepayers.
Meaningfully consult with residents, farmers and businesses about affordable and sustainable solutions.
Our community deserves responsible financial management without placing an unreasonable burden on those who call Temora Shire home.

Please sign this petition and stand with our community.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH — SAY NO TO THE SRV.
