Tater is a beloved blue nosed pittie in Minnesota. His Facebook page, "Love for Tater" had over 21,000 followers from New York and beyond before the owners shut it down. He has been an amazing ambassador for Pitties and his story has been followed since his adoption in 2013 from Midwest Animal Rescue Services (MARS).
Tater's welfare became compromised by his owners, an Adult Mom and her Teenage Daughter, this week. They claim he allegedly "bit" the 16 year old on her hand. An appointment was made at the local city animal impound to have him euthanized a couple of days later.
As far as we understand, neither the police nor the rescue Tater was adopted from were notified of the "bite". Concerned individuals contacted his Rescue Group, who were completely unaware of what had happened, to share that a euthanasia appointment was scheduled. Midwest Animal Rescue Services (MARS) immediately contacted the impound and Tater's euth. appt. was cancelled.
By Minnesota Sate Law, Tater is now required to be quarantined for 10 days, either in his home, or another facility. The Mom and Daughter decided to do Tater's quarantine at home. MARS reached out to the family and requested the owners return Tater to them (as is in the signed adoption contract). We are not privy to exactly what happened, but they refused and the local police were called in to intervene.
Tater is now serving his quarantine in an environment where he will be properly evaluated and have a complete physical with his regular vet. The owners are refusing to turn Tater over to his Rescue group, who desperately wishes to have Tater back into their care.
