Save young animals and birds. Stop prescribed burning in spring in Riding Mountain Park

The Issue

Prescribed burning during the spring months in Riding Mountain National Park will impact nesting habitats of many animals and will injure or kill many new born ground dwelling species including rabbits, prairie chickens and other birds who nest in the ground.

In the spring Deer and Elk hide their young in grassy areas as a way of protecting them.  Controlled burns could end up killing these young vulnerable animals.

We ask that Parks Canada please consider these impacts and stop the planned spring controlled burns throughout Riding Mountain National Park.  We must express our concern and stop the planned spring burning that is set to begin on April 24th.
