On 11th June 1986, Ye Olde Swiss Cottage Pub reopened its doors as one of London's largest and most iconic pubs.

Operated by Samuel Smith Old Brewery, it featured six bars, a carvery, and live music, and quickly became a local landmark with roots reaching back to the 1830s.

But on 1st February 2025, without warning, the pub was suddenly closed.

Since then, the building has sat vacant and decaying, with no word from the brewery. What was once a vibrant community hub now stands in silence, its rich history fading behind shuttered doors.

The community responded with determination. Residents and supporters across Camden and beyond successfully campaigned for the pub to be granted Asset of Community Value (ACV) status—a major win that officially recognized its cultural and historical importance.

However, an ACV is not a guarantee of reopening. The building remains closed. The brewery has offered no updates, no plans, and no dialogue with the public.

We now Call on Samuel Smith Brewery:

  • To acknowledge the public outcry and engage with the community
  •
  • To do what is right—reopen the pub, or offer a realistic opportunity for others to do so
  •
  • To allow local groups the chance to bid or sell the site to a responsible pub operator

This pub is more than a building—it’s a symbol of community, tradition, and shared memory. Its history cannot be overlooked, and its future should not be abandoned.

Let’s work together to restore Ye Olde Swiss Cottage to its former glory—as a thriving, welcoming space that serves the people once again.
