Save Wills Dog Park

Save Wills Dog Park
The Issue
There are three proposed plans for Wills Park, all of which include moving, altering, and/or reducing the size of the dog park. We dog owners and dog park supporters are concerned and have objections over any plans to move and reduce the size of the current dog park enclosures.
Our three main areas of concern:
- The dog park enclosures should not be moved, and we are requesting that they remain in their current location.
- The size of the current dog park enclosures should not be reduced. The dog park is only 1.5 acres, accounting for just 1.25% of the park's 120 total acres. In contrast, 60 acres are allocated to equestrian activities, and there are currently 10 baseball fields. There is an 18-hole disc golf course and a newly renovated swimming pool complex. The dog park facilities are heavily used and need expansion.
- Reviewing the current parks and recreation budget reveals that no funds are allocated to basic maintenance of the dog park enclosures. In recent months, we've noted the flooding of the large dog enclosure, the existence of large holes, and a lack of adequate mulch.
Help us save the dog park!
Last update from City Council: A draft plan may be ready by mid-September with a final plan for approval to be submitted by mid-October.
