Save Whiston Woods!

Save Whiston Woods!
The Issue
Knowsley Council are planning to use Whiston Woods as cemetery.
They are currently in talks with Forestry UK to buy the land. The land falls under St Helens Council, and Knowsley intend to apply for planning permission imminently. Once they get this planning permission, they will proceed with the sale - money has already been agreed and set aside to complete the sale.
This affects people from all over Whiston, Huyton, Prescot, Rainhill, Cronton and beyond, as one of the last green spaces where we're allowed to wander, and where wildlife can exist. Greenbelt in the area has already been released and sold off for housing and industrial developments, with very little access to natural areas remaining.
People have had enough. We're not prepared to wait for phoney "consultations". We need to save Whiston Woods for our community, the wildlife, the environment and our children and future generations. If we let this go now, our kids will never forgive us.
We demand that the woods are protected for all to use, and that Knowsley Council explore other options for cemetery space if it's needed.
Please share this petition and speak to your neighbours who might not be aware of the plans. Write to your local and Borough councillors. Email your MP. Contact the planning departments at both Knowsley and St Helens Councils. Ask them what's going on! Keep that pressure up. Please don't ignore this issue - that's how they get away with plans such as this!
Please keep an eye on the Facebook group "Save Whiston Woods" as we'll be organising leaflet drops, protests and more.
