Save Ward End Library from relocation

Save Ward End Library from relocation
The Issue
UPDATE:
The council are suggesting a relocation because they not committed to perserving the building and are not prioritising financing repairs on our library.
A relocation has been suggested but this would be very disadvantageous to the community. It would result in shrinking resources and services.
In addition the building will be shared with a neighbourhood office. Subsquently the library would attract fewer members due to the nature of citizens using the neighbourhood office.
The new building is smaller and does not have parking. By choosing to renovate and preserve the current building it reflects the council’s commitment to public opinion and heritage.
We urge the council to prioritise repairs and consider the local communities strong attachment to this library and retain the building with all of its services and resources.

Ward End Library has been a cornerstone of our community in Birmingham since 1928. For nearly a century, it has not only been a place to borrow books but a sanctuary for learning, personal growth, and community connection. Personally, my family's history is woven into the very fabric of this library. My grandparents, parents, myself, and now my children have all walked through its doors and benefited immensely from the resources and welcoming environment it provides. Tragically, as we approach its 100-year milestone, we find ourselves not celebrating a century of community service, but fighting to prevent its closure.
Closing Ward End Library would not only deprive current residents of these vital services but also break a chain of learning and knowledge-sharing established over generations.
Ward End Library is more than books; it's a place where children discover the joy of reading, where students find a quiet place to study, and where adults can attend workshops to learn new skills or meet others in their community.
To save Ward End Library, we urge the Birmingham City Council and local authorities to reconsider their decision and explore alternative measures to maintain funding.
We must act now to prevent the loss of this invaluable community treasure. By signing this petition, you're not only supporting a building but standing up for education, community engagement, and the preservation of our local heritage. Let’s keep Ward End Library open for future generations to enjoy and benefit from. Please sign and share to save our library.
