Walton on Thames Community Hospital is closing it's wards permanently for redevelopment of the site into offices.

This hospital is a rehabilitation hospital for patients being discharged from hospital to access physio and recuparation in order to manage at home as soon as possible. It will affect many families in the Walton area caring for the elderly and requiring this vital resource after a debilitating accident or illness. 

The only other rehabilitation hospital in the area is Woking, which is already stretched for beds. By closing Walton Hospital, the nursing homes and care staff in the area will be overwhelmed, with St Peter's hospital unable to discharge patients - leading to a backlog of bed shortages for incoming patients.
