Tolson Museum will remain open until 2026 but Kirklees Council has not said what will happen from 2027 and currently has no plans for the museum beyond 2026. We have heard ideas have been put forward but we do not know what those ideas are and the public has not been consulted. Meanwhile construction has started for a new museum & art gallery elsewhere costing £55 million and is due to open in 2029.

52 days ago, I sent a personal letter and an email to the Reform Kirklees Council Leader which the Chief Executive was copied into which I have yet to receive a response. I told the Council Leader that over 4,000 local residents have expressed their opinion via this petition that Tolson Museum should remain open and asked questions on your behalf of what the future holds for Tolson Museum. Please support Tolson Museum where you can. The Museum is open to the public on weekends in October, November and December from 12pm. Friends of Tolson & Ravensknowle Park are organising a free event of Tea & Cake Trunk Show where members of the Knitting & Crochet Guild will show and talk about local textiles which will be held on Wednesday October 14th 2pm-4pm at Tolson Museum.
Leigh Tolson gifted Ravensknowle Hall to Huddersfield over 100 years ago in memory of his 2 nephews, brothers Robert Tolson & James Tolson, who were killed in First World War.
