At last week's Council meeting, the Councillors ignored the fact that the proposed skate park design absolutely dwarfed the 'footprint' voted on in last year's community survey. Ratepayers did not vote for this huge skate park, more suited to youth and adults, than the small children referred to in the Mayor's 'local park for local kids' election propaganda. It will be at least twice as big, and perhaps four times as big when the surrounding foundations are complete, thus destroying at least 25% of this valuable green space which provides shelter for rarely seen species of wrens. It ignored valid questions from ratepayers, and heartfelt public statements. It simply pushed ahead with its motion and passed it unanimously, with a vague reference to revegetating the remainder of the park. They have done this before. There will be no money to fulfil this promise. Don't be deceived.
