Cottesloe Coastcare in its latest newsletter admits there is concern in the community, over the decision to build a skate park on this last small reserve, which is home to over 21 bird species, including the purple-backed fairy wren and the brown spotted scrub wren.
Cottesloe Coastcare feels the controversy over the skate park 'highlights the way our values towards public open space and natural areas have changed over time', and highlights 'the challenge for the Cottesloe community in finding a balance between preserving and restoring natural areas and allocating areas for recreational use, both passive and active.'
If they, the champions of coastal revegetation admit opinion is divided, surely the Council should rethink its decision and find somewhere more environmentally friendly and less controversial to locate a skate park.
