The Cottesloe Council has allowed the John Black Dune Park, which was named in memory of John Black, one of Cottesloe's most respected mayors during war time, to degrade.

It should have restored and revegetated the park, when the tennis club extended into the dunes, but it failed to do so. It has betrayed its Environment and Sustainability policy which 'aims to lead in environmental management, sustainability initiatives as well as prepare for and mitigate climate change'.

It has decided to destroy the natural area, home to many species of small birds, reptiles, insects and flora, in favour of a concrete skate park. Do you know that according to Beyond Zero Emissions, cement 'is the world's single biggest industrial cause of carbon pollution, responsible for 8% of global emissions'?
