Hello Friend of the Windham Path.

Thank you to those of you who were able to send letters or attend the recent Town Board meeting to express your support for preserving the Windham Path.  There was standing room only at the meeting and, to date, more than 1,100 people have signed a petition requesting that a plan be developed to address the needs of the Mountain Top Little League without relocating fields to the Windham Path property.

The meeting was a successful start in demonstrating to the Town Supervisor and Board Members that there is significant opposition to a ballfield complex on the Path property, but it is critical that we continue to make our voices heard. We asked the Town Supervisor and the Board to form a committee (to include representation from the Board, Little League and those who want to preserve the Path as is) to identify viable alternative locations for the Mountain Top Little League. This request for cooperation was denied.

Now more than ever, we need your support to ensure that the one-of-a-kind resource of the Windham Path is protected.  Here are some simple action steps you can take:

1) Please click here to read the Daily Mail article and note the two areas which call attention to two important concerns.

a. First, the Town Supervisor was not truthful to the public.  He indicated that the Prattsville Town Supervisor said that they would not be willing to host the Mountain Top Little League on an ongoing basis at their existing, state-of-the-art ballfield.  In fact, as you will read, the Prattsville Town Supervisor would be happy to host the Mountain Top Little League at their centrally located field.  Not only is this a viable option to be evaluated, but the Supervisor’s failure to be truthful calls into question whether or to what extent any other options have been assessed.

b.  Second, the Town Supervisor indicated that if you don’t vote in Windham, you don’t legally have a say.  We don’t believe that at all!!  In fact, the Windham Path provides quality of life to Windham residents but also provides essential support to our economy by drawing in visitors and second home owners (who contribute significantly to the tax base).  The Town Board must value the input of every Windham resident and visitor.

2) Please inform your family, friends and anyone you talk to who might have a different understanding, that there are viable options to meet the needs of the Little League kids and families while preserving the natural beauty and serenity of the Windham Path.

3) The Town Supervisor committed to fully exploring all questions about strategies to mediate the current Mountain Top Little League location or concerning relocation alternatives.  Please forward any questions or ideas you may have to preservethewindhampath@gmail.com and we will compile them to submit to the town.

4) Please urge the Town Board to find a win-win solution to preserve these two important resources for residents and taxpayers.  Town Board meetings are held biweekly on Thursdays at 7:00 at the Windham Town Hall located at 371 NY-296 in Hensonville.  The next meeting with be on May 23rd.  Please show up and demand the best effort of our elected leaders.  And, continue to send letters voicing your opinions to the Town Supervisor and Board members at:  windhamnysupervisor@gmail.com, wayne@townofwindhamny.com, ian@townofwindhamny.com and kurt@townofwindhamny.com.

Thank you for caring about the Windham Path.

Stay tuned for additional updates and info about a Walk on the Path at 6:30pm on May 26th.
