Save The Windham Path

Save The Windham Path
The Issue
Walking the Windham Path is one of the rare family-friendly Mountain Top activities that is free and easily accessed. We strongly oppose the Windham Town Board's discussed plans to build a baseball complex within the Windham Path itself. Taking up as much as 10% of the existing property, the complex would include two ballfields, bleachers, dugouts, bathrooms, and parking. Building such a sizable complex would cause the disruption of wildlife; and affect the amazing visual appeal and the quiet, serene natural beauty of the “Crown Jewel of Windham.”
There are alternative locations on which to build which have not been fully investigated. We request an open forum with complete transparency from the Town Board, so that the public can be heard and involved in any decisions regarding the future home of the ballfield, including the possibility of a referendum to allow the voters to decide whether to build a ballfield complex within the Windham Path.
We, the undersigned, ask that the Windham Town Board leave the Windham Path, a place of harmony and discovery, in its natural state. Please allow us to help you find a different location for the proposed ballfield complex!
PS Thank you for signing this petition. Those of us who are involved in preserving the integrity of The Windham Path understand how important the Mountaintop Little League is to the town, the mountaintop, our kids, and the parents. We also understand that in opposing the use the Windham Path for a ballfield complex, we must also help find alternatives. While we would like to work collaboratively with Little League and the town, we are currently working on this and hope to present viable and cost-effective alternatives to building on the Path. There are ballfields in other towns on the mountaintop, but at this point, we are first hoping to cooperate with Little League to see if we can help make the existing ballpark an even better home for the teams, including a plan for more parking on site. The position of Friends of the Windham Path is first and foremost respectful collaboration. We are determined to prevent further disruption and development on the Windham Path and, at the same time, as community members seeking common ground, we are committed to finding an acceptable alternative to building on the Path.
