Journalists across London have been shocked to hear about our community's struggle to save its gardens leading to extensive coverage on the BBC (radio, TV and website), in the Mirror, Evening Standard, LBC, 853 and My London. Influencer Joris Lechêne also made a short film covering the story in detail which has been watched tens of thousands of times. Meanwhile our petition has now been signed by nearly 2,000 people. Thank you everyone for your support and messages.
Update on negotiations with Greenwich Council
A residents meeting with Greenwich councillors and officers held last night was constructive, centring on routes to a compromise. Residents were able to explain the risks that removing the plants will expose them to and the council apologised for poor communication. Residents also raised a large number of previously-reported health and safety risks on the estate that have gone unactioned in some cases for years.
Following a vote, the meeting agreed to "reset" the dialogue and start from scratch with a series of meetings between residents and council officials to discuss and agree action on a range of issues including finding a mutually acceptable way forward for the estate's front gardens.
Residents look forward to those promised meetings.
