The Issue

I volunteered there. I brought my nieces and nephews to explore its corridors and listen to the echoes of the past. Each time I walked through those doors, I felt an indescribable connection—like I belonged to something greater than myself. The Vaile Mansion isn't just a building; it's a treasure of Independence, Missouri, a historical icon that we cannot afford to lose.

The Vaile Mansion, built in 1881, is a striking example of the Second Empire architecture, capturing not only the beauty of its time but also the stories and lives of the late 19th century. This architectural gem has stood the test of time, attracting visitors, historians, and locals alike who are captivated by its grand design and the tales it tells.

Unfortunately, the future of the Vaile Mansion is at risk. Due to funding shortages, this historic landmark faces possible neglect, leading to irreversible damage and the loss of a significant piece of our heritage. The preservation of the mansion is essential, not only for preserving its beauty but also for maintaining the cultural and educational value it provides to the community.

We propose that local authorities, along with community members, join forces to create a preservation fund solely dedicated to the upkeep of the Vaile Mansion. This initiative could include fundraising events, partnerships with local businesses, and grants from historical preservation societies. Additionally, promoting the mansion as a venue for events and educational programs can generate consistent revenue, ensuring its maintenance and relevance in modern times.

In protecting the Vaile Mansion, we safeguard not just bricks and mortar, but the soul of our community and the historic richness of Independence. Losing this mansion would mean losing a vital link to our past, a place that continues to inspire and educate future generations.

I invite you to join me in this cause to preserve a part of our shared history. Stand with us as we call on city officials, community leaders, and preservationists to take immediate action.

Please sign this petition and help save the Vaile Mansion, ensuring it remains a beacon of history and culture for generations to come.
