Save the traffic warden from Green Lane

The Issue

I am deeply concerned about Kildare County Council's decision to remove the traffic warden from outside Scoil Eoin Phoil on Green Lane. As a local resident and parent, this decision directly affects the safety of our children. Green Lane is a busy area, especially during school hours, when many young students are crossing the road to get to school and back home. The presence of a dedicated traffic warden has been instrumental in managing the traffic and ensuring the safety of our children.

The council’s decision stems from the plan to replace the retiring traffic warden currently serving Scoil San Carlo in Confey, yet they choose not to replace the vital role of the traffic warden at Green Lane. The roads department has cited that they have been instructed to "work with their current resources," by council management, effectively disregarding our children and prioritising budget over safety.

This decision undermines the safety of the hundreds of children who rely on the traffic warden to cross the road safely each day. The council say there are alternative crossings that can be used.  However, last year, there was a sustained period where there was no warden, due to the position not being filled. Children still used the crossing daily, relying on cars to stop for them. This is an accident waiting to happen

Green Lane has just been allocated grant works of €870k euro to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety-this decision makes absolutely no sense!

We need to urge Kildare County Council to reconsider their decision and allocate resources to ensure that Scoil Eoin Phoil continues to be staffed with a traffic warden. The safety of our children must be prioritised.

Please join me in calling on Kildare County Council to save the traffic warden position at Green Lane and uphold our community’s safety standards. Sign this petition to demand immediate action to protect our children and ensure their safe passage to and from school every day.
