The Issue

Last year, during Form 4, a new syllabus called OBE (Outcome-Based Education) was introduced. This syllabus is student-centered, meaning students have to teach themselves. Having persevered through the ups and downs of this challenging and autonomous learning system, it's disheartening to learn that the government plans to discontinue the Top Achievers Programme.

The Top Achievers Programme offered hope and a tangible goal for students striving for excellence. With the reward of A-Level studies and the possibility of attending any university abroad, this initiative was a beacon of opportunity for countless students with six A*'s and above. Discontinuing this programme not only dimishes motivation, but also hinders the dreams of many who have worked tirelessly under the demanding OBE syllabus.

Statistics have shown that scholarship programmes like this are pivotal in fostering educational excellence and international competitiveness. They provide an essential platform for students who excel academically, allowing them to contribute significantly to society both locally and globally. By investing in these high-achieving students, the nation is investing in its own future.

The decision to potentially put an end the Top Achievers Programme could have long-lasting detrimental effects on the educational landscape. It undermines the efforts of students who have shown exemplary performance and reduces the incentives for pursuing academic excellence.

By continuing with the programme , the government can reaffirm its commitment to education and the nurturing of talent. The continuation of the Top Achievers Programme will inspire future generations to strive for academic excellence, knowing that their efforts will be rewarded with opportunities for higher education and global exposure.

We urge the government to make the right decision that will benefit majority of students by continuing with the programme for the sake of the bright futures of these deserving students and the nation's continued growth and development. Please support this petition and help preserve the dreams and aspirations of future leaders. Sign and spread the word to make a difference.
