The Royal BC Museum is still in a state of disaster, as the Provincial NDP government continues to run it into the ground.
The museum has been undergoing a new 'public engagement' process that it refers to as "reimagining" the museum. Reimagining is a public relations term designed for the public to want to something new.
What was wrong with the old? The only thing that is apparent is the BC government's disdainful approach to it.
The third floor, although partially accessible is in a state of ruin.
Please take part in the Royal BC Museum's latest survey:
Look how the latest Royal BC Museum Questionnaire is framing the answers in advance:
"12. When it comes to addressing the physical buildings of the Royal BC Museum’s downtown Victoria site, the museum is seeking to learn what people in B.C. prefer in terms of level of support in investment and closure time.
Your choices
· Keep the museum as-is, retaining the seismic risk, space and accessibility issues. (Minimum investment to address ongoing safety maintenance, limited closure time)
· Renovate current site to address environmental and safety risk. (Moderate investment, less closure time.)
· Revitalize existing site through a combination of renovations and demolishing/rebuilding. (Moderate investment, moderate-to-less closure time.)
· Replace museum on existing site; accept built-in limitations on space. (Larger investment, longer closure time.)
· Replace the museum on a new site in Greater Victoria. (Larger investment, moderate closure time.)
· Reduce focus on/offerings at downtown site and redistribute programming across the province through travelling, satellite or locally-hosted exhibitions. (Moderate investment, limited closure time.)"
Community Engagement | Royal BC Museum and Archives
Please continue to help save the museum by continuing to tell the museum and the government to stop making matters worse by continuing with the charade. Fully restore the museum at its current location to its original state.
A constant disaster zone, in order to push the interests of the development industry and continue with a narrative of government propaganda, is not a way to run a museum.
