The Issue

The Studio School community is facing a critical decision: the proposed closure of our cherished academically excellent art integrated elementary school. The school district has announced plans to consolidate five elementary schools and one middle school, and The Studio School is on the list. This is not just a building or a place of learning for us; it is the heart of our community and a beacon of creativity and academic excellence.

We as a Studio School community are very sad to hear that if the closing of the school does happen they are not willing to guarantee any jobs to current staff. The current staff at The Studio School is why the school is thriving without them The Studio School would not be the same. We hope if they go forward with creating a new art integrated K-8 school  staff is able to join and we will fight to have them be a part of this with us.

At a time when fostering creativity in education is more essential than ever, The Studio School stands as a vital supporter of students' artistic growth intertwined with academic success. According to studies published by the National Endowment for the Arts, students engaged in arts learning are more likely to achieve higher grades, score better on tests, and pursue higher education. Our school not only nurtures academic achievements but also promotes social-emotional development and innovative thinking through its integrated art curriculum. It is a proven, successful model that should be preserved, not dismantled.

The school district claims that consolidation will lead to cost savings and efficiencies. However, closing schools that perform well both academically and in arts integration is a misguided short-term economic decision that disregards the long-term benefits.

We urge the decision-makers to explore alternative measures that could address budgetary constraints without sacrificing quality education and unique learning experiences for our children. Options include re-evaluating administrative expenses, applying for state and federal grant opportunities specifically for art programs, or initiating a local fundraising campaign with community partners invested in maintaining this vital resource.

Your signature can make a significant difference in showing the importance of preserving this model of education in our community. Let's stand together to keep the academically excellent, art integrated Studio School open for future generations of creative thinkers and leaders. Please sign the petition to make your voice heard and ensure our children continue to receive the education they deserve.
