Save the Stretton Water Tap

The Issue

We’re calling on Montgomery Waters and the local authorities to reopen access to the public spring water tap in Church Stretton, SY15 6AR.

This tap has provided many of us with clean, natural spring water for years. In a time when most domestic tap water is chemically treated and in some areas even comes from recycled sewage, having access to a fresh spring source has been invaluable for health and peace of mind.

Access has recently been closed due to concerns about potential traffic collisions. While safety is of course important, there are simple and effective alternatives that could solve this without removing public access to the water completely.

Some common-sense solutions might include:

 • Putting up a sign warning drivers and encouraging caution near the tap.

 • Asking people to park safely in the nearby lay-by and walk across to collect water.

 • Introducing clear markings or minor safety features to protect pedestrians.

This tap means a lot to people. It’s more than just a water source – it’s part of our community and our connection to natural, untreated water. We believe there’s a better way than cutting it off entirely.

There must be a way to balance safety with public benefit, and we strongly believe that permanently removing this vital resource is not the answer.

Please help us protect public access to free, natural spring water – a precious and increasingly rare resource.

Please add your name to support keeping this spring water tap open and accessible to the public.

Let’s protect access to safe, natural water for everyone.
