The Strafford School Board is proposing to eliminate the Foreign Language Program from the Strafford School curriculum.  Our children need a well-rounded education that includes more than just reading, math and science.  Studies show that learning a foreign language is associated with improved memory and reasoning skills, higher performance in other classes and higher standardized test scores.  The foreign language program helps our students gain an understanding and appreciation of other languages and cultures.  With the annual trip to Canada every spring, it is the first opportunity that a lot of kids in Strafford have to travel, especially out of the country.  We were one of the first elementary schools in the area to start a foreign language program.  It would be a shame to be the first to lose it.
