Save the Social Club at Royal Surrey County Hospital

Save the Social Club at Royal Surrey County Hospital
The Issue
Working at the Royal Surrey County Hospital can be incredibly demanding. We feel strongly that departments often feel the pressures that come with providing quality healthcare services and need a place to decompress after work. Over time, the social club here has become much more than just a gathering space. It's our sanctuary—a place where we recharge, destress, celebrate birthdays, and engage in essential team-building activities. This is not just a venue; it's a cornerstone for our mental well-being and camaraderie.
Now, this vital part of our work-life balance is under threat. The decision to close the social club and replace its management impacts not only our department but the entire hospital staff. We all rely on this community space to foster stronger relationships and offer each other the much-needed support after arduous workdays. The staff of the social club have become more than colleagues, they are our support and more importantly, our friends.
We have lost a valuable institution that contributes significantly to our morale, particularly noticeable at a time when the sun has just appeared and the summer activities were just about to start!!
We propose you reinstate its management and re-open ASAP, so that the NHS staff who utilise it do not miss out on the exciting summer functions that were just about to commence. Studies have shown that workplace social interactions contribute to improved job satisfaction and mental health, which directly impacts productivity (source: [NHS Employers]).
Please sign this petition and join us in urging the hospital administration to reconsider the closure of our social club and the replacement of its management. Help us preserve a valued social club team that's indispensable to staff morale and teamwork. Even short unplanned closures will affect us greatly. Together, we can make a difference and keep our social club alive and it's staff exactly where they should be.
