SAVE THE SEA

SAVE THE SEA
The Issue
Over 100,000 animals die from garbage in the sea each year. This needs to change!
The Earth is 71% water. 90% of the world’s litter is in the oceans, about 520 million pounds of trash. We need to clean up the oceans because sea life and people are dying. When the water is polluted fishing becomes more difficult. Plastic bags are suffocating sea life, along with harmful microplastics that are in the ocean’s water.
The ocean is an amazing food source and home to millions of plants and animals. If we start cleaning up the ocean now, we can save at risk species such as Orca whales, Chinook salmon, Bull trout and Green sea turtles. We need to work on saving all the species to preserve a healthy underwater ecosystem.
Here are some simple ways you can help. You can use paper bags instead of plastic because paper is biodegradable. Dispose of cleaning materials and garbage properly. Buy seafood from companies that practice sustainable fishing. Help us encourage the Washington State Department of Ecology to give funding for cleaning up the oceans.
Sign to raise awareness and clean up the oceans.
Also check out these charities to donate if you, like me, love the sea.
