Save the Sanctuary for Senior Dogs from arbitrary decision making by Moreton Bay Council

The issue

Karen and Jamie Goulet care for 14 senior dogs that no-one wanted in their home on their 2 acre property in Queensland. Councils and shelters rely on them to take seniors - or they would need to be euthanised.

The Goulet’s receive no funding or donations. The dogs are all well cared for, live inside as treasured members of the family and receive vet care as required.

Karen was nominated for citizen of the year awarded by her local council and any issues raised previously have been amicably resolved.

Now however, Moreton Bay Regional Council have told the Goulet’s they must reduce the number of dogs they have to 4 within a couple of days or face a fine of $7,000.  They have apparently had 10 complaints about excessive barking and aggressive dogs. If there were any truth to that - there would have been evidence of it while the film crew were there - but they were all just quietly resting or going about their business. None of the neighbours spoken to voiced any concerns or had complained to Council. It is testament to the Goulet’s integrity that they were publicly supported and endorsed by the Animal Welfare League, Queensland.

How could you begin to make such a decision to choose 10 of these 14 seniors - and where would these dogs go? They are where they are because no-one wanted to adopt them in the first place. This sanctuary is providing a valuable and essential service to the community. Shelters are already overflowing - taking this sanctuary  option away - would reduce capacity even further and inevitably result in the death of 10 of these dogs.

Please sign this petition requesting Moreton Bay Regional Council reverse their position and find a way to assist the Goulet’s to legitimise and legalise their Sanctuary so that these Golden Oldies and those still to come can continue to live out  their lives loved, valued, appreciated and cared for, and  enable the Goulet’s to extend the loyalty to these senior dogs that they undoubtedly gave to their previous families.

Please also share with all your animal loving friends asking that they too sign and share.
