The issue

The Robinvale Hotel at 70 Perrin Street is more than just bricks and mortar.

It’s a landmark of our town’s rich heritage—a meeting place that has served generations of locals, migrants, and visitors since the 1920s. Now, it’s at risk of being demolished.

Despite being protected under Heritage Overlay HO99, the building has been allowed to fall into disrepair under private ownership at the expense of locals who have watched the site remain unused and unkempt with broken hearts for almost 10 years since fire damaged the building.

We are asking the Swan Hill Rural City Council to:

  •  Reject the current demolition proposal (PLN2024090);
  •  Acquire ownership of the site through private purchase or using its powers under the Planning and Environment Act.
  • Preserve and maintain the facade of the building, and other elements of Heritage significance, and improve the entire site for Robinvale Community Benefit

There are many purposes that may be accommodated within the site: a garden and market space, Council offices, including Resource Centre, Centrelink and VicRoads; a social hub; cultural centre; hospitality; tourism and shared civic space.

The Robinvale Hotel building repurposed, well maintained and hosting well used community services will be of long term social and economic benefit to the town of Robinvale.

It will maintain foot traffic to the CBD and lift the prosperity of the CBD and morale of the Robinvale community for years to come.

We’ve seen this work before; In Sea Lake, the local pub was saved and revived by the towns people. In Melbourne, public pressure saved the Tote Hotel and returned it to cultural use, Wentworth Shire Council consolidated services within the repurposed ex. Wentworth Club building creating long term community benefits.

 This isn’t just about preserving a building.

It’s about protecting what makes Robinvale unique, and ensuring that our next generation still has a place that tells the story of who we are.

Sign this petition to show your support for a community-led future for the Robinvale Hotel.

Let’s save this place—not just for its past, but for everything it can still become.
