Save the Robberg Reserve and Its Wildlife Corridors from becoming a desert

The Issue

The Robberg reserve is a Unesco World Heritage Site and a National Monument. If we do not protect it, it could become a desert.

My personal connection to the Robberg Reserve goes beyond words. It is a pristine nature spot held dear by many, and arguably the most precious and prized nature walk in the world. Its biodiversity that spans from the ocean to the land is astonishing; it is one of the only places in the world that boast the sight of great white sharks from the land. The reserve is home to a significant Cape fur seal population, a vibrant variety of indigenous plants, and a thriving microbiome. Furthermore, it holds rich history dating back to the origins of man, serving as a testament to our timeless relationship with nature.

However, the future of this irreplaceable reserve, and the wildlife corridors feeding into it, is under threat of being fragmented and damaged by developments along the coastline. This puts the unmatched biodiversity and the flow of wildlife into the reserve at massive risk. The negative impact of such developments could be devastating and far-reaching, ultimately strangling the reserve.

We cannot stand aside and let this happen. We must safeguard the Robberg Reserve and its invaluable nature corridors and conserve it for the multitude of species relying on it and for future generations to continue enjoying its magical beauty. I implore you to join me in urging our local authorities to re-evaluate and halt the threatening coastal developments. Your voice can make a difference.
