The Issue

SAVE OUR COMMUNITY GOLF COURSE

Our municipal golf course isn’t just land, it’s a place where friendships grow, families bond, and players of all ages enjoy the outdoors. It’s where we teach our kids, play with our neighbors, and take a break from the busy world.

Golf brings people together and none does it better than the Palmer Golf Course. Palmer is the first course to open each Spring in Alaska and hosts the US Open Qualifier in May.

The course provides outdoor and local recreation for youth, seniors and families all while generating revenue for the City of Palmer.

Golf is growing across every age bracket throughout the country and we want to be apart of the future- not left behind.

Now, this beloved course is under threat from planned airport expansion. We believe our green space, local recreation, and community gathering place are worth protecting.

What you should know:
An older federal aviation grant ties the City of Palmer to a tough decision: either expand the municipal airport into the land where our city golf course sits or pay the FAA back, which could cost local taxpayers millions.

City officials say a decision will likely need to be made in the next three to five years. The expansion is only required once the airport runs out of other usable space for new hangars.

What happens to the golf course will be part of the next airport master plan update, which is expected to begin next year.

Let’s be proactive and show how much the Palmer Golf Course means to the community.

We, the undersigned, stand together to keep our golf course open and thriving for future generations.

The time to act is now before the planning meeting in 2026. We need to show what a gem the Palmer golf Course is and you can help!

Please share far and wide to save a game we all love.
