Save the Outdoor School for Maplewood 5th Graders
Save the Outdoor School for Maplewood 5th Graders
The Issue
For years, 5th graders at Maplewood Elementary School in Austin, TX, have eagerly anticipated their trip to the Outdoor School, a cherished tradition that marks the culmination of their elementary education and prepares them for the next big step into middle school. This is not just a field trip; it’s a rite of passage that students, parents, and teachers alike look forward to. It’s an opportunity for students to step into leadership roles, form deeper bonds with their peers, and gain valuable life skills in an environment beyond the classroom walls.
The Outdoor School, founded in 1996 at Camp Champions in Marble Falls, TX, offers an exceptional blend of experiential education and personal growth opportunities. Maplewood students have been part of this program since at least 2007. The school’s immersive curriculum focuses on teamwork, problem-solving, and self-confidence, all critical skills that bolster students' transition to middle school. Losing this experience would not only be a loss to Maplewood’s educational tradition but also to the development of the students who benefit immensely from it.
Despite its significant impact, this invaluable program is currently at risk. We need immediate action to preserve this experience for our kids and future generations of 5th graders.
Sign this petition to urge Maplewood administration to preserve the Outdoor School for the 5th graders. Together, we can ensure that this vital learning and growth opportunity remains a part of our children’s education and legacy for years to come.
