Petition to Preserve the Sussex Inlet Public School Logo

To the Principal, School Leadership Team, and the NSW Department of Education,

We, the undersigned members of the Sussex Inlet community, respectfully ask that the current Sussex Inlet Public School logo be preserved.

A school logo is much more than a design on a uniform or a letterhead. It is a symbol of belonging, pride, and shared history. For decades, the Sussex Inlet Public School logo has represented generations of students who have walked through the school gates, learnt valuable life lessons, formed lifelong friendships, and become part of the rich history of our community.

Many parents and grandparents of children attending the school today once proudly wore this very logo themselves. It connects generations, creating a powerful sense of continuity between those who came before, those who are there today, and those who will follow in years to come. It tells a story that belongs to our whole community.

Traditions like these cannot simply be replaced. They are built over time through memories of school assemblies, sports carnivals, concerts, excursions, graduations, and everyday moments that shape our children. The current logo has become part of those memories. It is woven into family photo albums, old school uniforms, achievement certificates, and the stories shared around dinner tables from one generation to the next.

Our school has always been more than a place of education—it is the heart of Sussex Inlet. The current logo represents the values, resilience, and community spirit that have been passed down through generations of students and families. Preserving it honours the thousands of children who have proudly represented Sussex Inlet Public School throughout its history and allows future students to feel connected to that same legacy.

While we understand that schools evolve over time, not every tradition needs to be changed. Some traditions deserve to be protected because they remind us where we have come from and strengthen our sense of belonging.

We believe the current logo should remain as a lasting symbol of our school’s history, our community, and the generations of families whose lives have been shaped by Sussex Inlet Public School. It is not simply a logo—it is part of our identity.

We respectfully ask that any proposal to change the school’s logo be reconsidered and that the voices of current families, former students, staff, and the wider Sussex Inlet community be carefully heard before any decision is made.

Let us preserve a symbol that has united our community for generations and ensure that our children and grandchildren can wear the same emblem with the same pride as those who came before them.

Together, we can protect an important piece of Sussex Inlet Public School’s history for generations to come.
