Gir once had one of the darkest skies in the country and that was not long ago but 8 to 10 years back. We are losing it very fast with unwanted, unshielded LED lights popping up everywhere. While the wildlife is affected by it, the stars are disappearing in the skies. Gir needs to be converted in a Dark Sky Reserve as soon as possible.  There is no harm in cutting back the lights. Lights do not mean security, smart lights mean security. Use downward facing lights that don't spill in the sky. Use lights with lower color temperature (deep yellow to orange colored NO WHITE LIGHTS). Motion sensing intelligent lights are best. This light encroachment has to be stopped. It is not that only skygazers are at a disadvantage due to this pollution. A lot of wildlife is being disturbed and their behavior modified due to this. Humans also suffer a significant disturbance in their circadian rhythm due to this pollution. ITS TIME TO ACT.
