Hello to new friends and old!
Since the lease extension was announced for the commissary bringing the closure to 2028 with an optional year (closure in 2029), things have been humming along with not much to report. Recently however, Congressman Liccardo spoke before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veteran’s Affairs to help save our commissary!
Here is the link for more information: https://liccardo.house.gov/media/press-releases/video-congressman-sam-liccardo-fights-secure-long-term-funding-commissary
This is GREAT news for our efforts and great news for the military community in the Bay Area! We have been heard, our needs have been recognized and now we will hope that funding for a new commissary will come through.
Thank you to all of the community members who have amplified this issue, who have called your local representatives and who have shared this petition. This issue would not be at the forefront without your help.
While we are so happy to be at this point, we aren’t quite there yet, so please keep signing and sharing.
We will be at the San Francisco National Cemetery (1 Lincoln Blvd, San Francisco) with the petition on 4/11. Come out to commemorate the 84th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March and witness this beautiful, moving ceremony. There will also be a flyover. The ceremony will start at 9:45am.
Lastly, THANK YOU Congressman Liccardo for taking the lead on this issue and for caring about the Bay Area Military community! We appreciate your hard work!
